Organs affected by Lyme.
The areas of your body that are affected by Lyme disease are the brain, nervous system, joints and the heart. The brain is probably the most serious because it is the control center of your body and it affects your memory, mood, and emotions. When the disease attacks the nervous system you may feel the symptoms of meningitis, encephalitis like vomiting, neck stiffness and pain on eye motion. You may get what they call Lyme arthritis which causes swelling in your knee joints. When Lyme disease attacks the heart it causes a condition that they call carditis, which is an infection of the heart tissues. If left untreated it can cause heart blockage. This has different degrees of severity, first, second, and third degree heart blockage. That means that this would have a big impact on people with already existing heart conditions.
